The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) on Thursday approved a proposal for realigning the proposed Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) between Delhi (Anand Vihar) and Meerut (Begumpul). The 90-km rapid train service from Anand Vihar in Delhi to Daurala in Meerut will decongest the NH-58 connecting the two cities. Besides, it will also benefit scores of daily commuters in Ghaziabad. Apart from this, the authority has also increased Floor Area Ratio from Dilshad Garden to the Bus Stand where Metro line will be extended.
Announcing a multitude of infrastructural projects after GDA board meeting, Santosh Kumar Yadav, Vice Chairman said that the authority is focussing on infrastructure development of the region and RRTS will prove a milestone.
“As traffic volume is increasing on roads, the need of the hour is to improve transport system and to decongest the key roads. The proposed RRTS will be carried by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation limited,” said the VC in a media briefing.
Talking about the ambitious project, Yadav said that the RRTS will shorten the distance between Meerut and Delhi. It will have 15 stations out of which seven stations will fall in Ghaziabad which would facilitate daily commuters between Ghaziabad and national Capital. “As thousands of commuters go to Delhi and Meerut, they will get Metro connectivity easily,” he said.
The VC also said that the decision to increase FAR along with proposed Dilshad Garden-Bus Stand Metro link was taken to ensure development of the region and to generate fund for construction of Metro line. “We want to attract commercial activities in the region and the move will help in this purpose. We will also be able to generate funds through this way,” added the VC. He also revealed that the project is likely to be extended to Collectorate so the commuters of Trans Hindon area could also avail the Metro facility.
In addition to this, authority also announced plans to install towers in 16 community centres run by GDA and cleared elevated road between UP Gate to
Raj Nagar Extension at a cost of Rs1,140 crore.
