Delhi Government’s helpline 181 has proved to be the bridge between the distressed Delhiites and the Delhi Police. It has recorded over 14 thousand calls of varying nature between December 31, 2012 and July 2014. launched by former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the aftermath of horrific December 16 gangrape, the helpline has proved to be quite a hit as people have been logging in to air their grievances and problems.
The data analysed by the experts on sexual assaults against women showed that as many as 14,318 FIRs were lodged on the basis of calls received by 181 helpline. In 67 police stations, the number of cases registered was as low as anything between 1 and 10. There were about 115 stations, where the number of cases registered ranged between 10 and 100.
