The power of perception

Sunday, 31 March 2013 | Bharat Bhushan Padmadeo

The other day, a gentleman came asking, “Is there something good in store in my destinyIJ It is difficult for me to recall any such phase when life would have ever moved with ease and comfort.”

“Well, had your destiny been so bad, you would not have had the privilege of being the beneficiary of all that is there at your command. By any standard, you are better than billions of people worldwide who struggle for the very basic means of survival. Obviously, you must have put in a lot of efforts to achieve that. For, nothing comes easy in life. You have to digest the pains associated with the efforts needed to gain something. And, if someone gets too much hassled for attending to the callings of the usual tasks in hand, nobody can help him/her. It is something like this that is happening with you. So, the discomfort that you feel is, in fact, a perception of your mind — a reflection of your self-assumed thoughts, rather than being a call of your destiny. So, you need to correct your perception in order to move in the right direction. True, you would have been often confronted with unforeseen problems thrust by others as well. However, in a world where everybody is born unique, each reflecting individual-specific mind-trends, and at variance with each other, arousal of conflicting interests becomes inevitable. So, that again needs to be attended as a matter of routine,” I tried to answer his queries logically.

The question now is: What holds the key to the man’s flawed perceptionsIJ That is a reflection of the making of his mind, coming as it may with his samskaras — the memory imprints carried over from the past — driving his mind. It, therefore, becomes incumbent upon you to look at your samskara imprints, figure out their infirmities, and make necessary corrections. In this respect, astrology can do wonders as a trusted diagnostic tool. The gentleman’s astrological pointers will throw interesting leads.

The man is born in Pisces lagna, a watery and dual sign, pointing to a vacillating, impressionable, usually having a complex character and a worrying mind. Habitually, such characters get too much excited even on small issues. They get into unnecessary brooding and contemplation beyond their due even over trivial issues. The mind indicator Moon is locked in adverse formation with emotion-signifying Venus, which by itself is combust. That makes the man too much touchy, sensitive and emotionally volatile, who habitually takes every issue to heart and stretch it beyond its due. In the process, the priority preferences often get ignored, thus getting him left behind in the run of time, and with obvious consequences. Added to this is affliction caused to Mars by mischievous Neptune, which brings in inferiority complex that vitiates his very thought process. Consequently, he becomes vulnerable to misdirect his energies towards unproductive ends, at times unmindfully getting into even self-destructive acts. What further compounds his problems is the affliction caused to intelligence indicator Mercury by fiery Mars, intellectually-ordained Uranus and mischievous Neptune. Affliction caused by these planets respectively implies as follows: (a) It makes him restless, impatient, irritable, argumentative, hyper-critical, and the one who lacks focus; (b) It makes him eccentric, opinionated and brings in nervous tendency; (c) It accounts for his impaired reasoning and judgement, thus making him vulnerable to cheating by those whom he trusts. And the result is there for all to see.

I wish he religiously subjects himself to the mind-detoxification exercise, as suggested. That will help him burn his flawed mind-trends in the mental fire excited during the process, as we symbolically do during Holika-dahan. He will then be able to lead a hassle-free life.
