Good play

Rating: 3.5/5

Tomb Raider is back and it looks good and plays good. It lands smack dab in the middle of the easy going action adventure genre. Clichéd, but a lot of fun. Tomb Raider was the original action adventure smash hit which spawned sequels and even movies. While I was playing this version, I could not but keep reminding myself as to how much it was like Uncharted (easy going and fun to play).

By easy going I don’t mean light on difficulty, but easy to pick up and play in tranches. For the older set, this is more important. Games are increasingly on the path of complex controls and thankfully, Tomb Raider bucks it by keeping it simple.

While I leave the meat of the story for you to explore, in a nutshell, you are lara Croft looking for the lost kingdom of Yamatai and stuck on an island from where no one can leave. In a specially frustrating moment a rescue aircraft is struck by lightning and falls to the island. Combat is fun. Your primary weapon being a bow which you can upgrade(along with other weapons). There is a skill and weapon upgrade mechanic which allows you to keep moving forward as the difficulty ramps up towards the latter stages of the game.

There is hunting element which seems un-necessary after the first few 15 minutes or so. And finally, how can there be a Tomb Raider without tombsIJ There are a few tombs secreted across the game which require some intense problem solving and scratching of heads, but, are completely optional. The game is good, well made and a must play if you like the action-adventure genre.
