Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik has demanded that former law Minister Raghunath Mohnaty be tried in a fast-track court.
“This will send out a strong message that no one is above law besides restoring the dignity of women, who suffer violence both within and outside their houses,” he said.
Patnaik also expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, which has seen a spurt in the number of rape cases in recent past.
“Along with women, child rape cases are also on the rise and this is such a shameful trend,” he said, adding that over 115 cases of child rape were reported in January and February this year, even as the number of rape cases jumped from 1,112 in 2011 to 1,458 in 2012.
“This Government has been highly incompetent in containing the law and order situation and, instead, has been busy doling out programmes laced with false promises to woo people ahead of the next elections. People will see the design and expose the Government,” Niranjan Patnaik added.
