Addressing ‘Civil Function’ hosted by Christian community in Bhopal at the BSSS College here late on Sunday night, Governor Ram Naresh Yadav said it is not proper to depend for development works only on the Government. He said that social organisations should also come forward for ensuring comprehensive development. He said there are some sectors in which social organisations can play active role to achieve better results.

The Governor said discharging their religious and humanitarian traditions, the Christian community always remains ready to serve the poor, victims and destitutes. He said the Christian community has rendered significant contribution in education, health and economic upliftment sectors. He said that these services are a source of inspiration for other institutions and organisations.

Yadav said, “Followers of all the religions co-habit peacefully with spirit of brotherhood, harmony and love and respect each others’ sentiments. It is a matter of pride for all of us. People should follow the path of love for humanity shown by lord Jesus.”

On the occasion, Yadav felicitated 12 talented persons of the community for excelling in various fields. Addressing the function, Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman Oscar Fernandes said that service to humanity is the biggest service and we should continue to move in this direction constantly. Every child in the country must be literate.

Union Minister of State Pradeep Jain said that we should take a pledge on the occasion to literate people around us. Knowledge fills life with light.

KK Appu Kuttan also addressed the function. Welcome address was delivered by Bhopal’s Arch Bishop leo Carnelio. Prayers, songs, ballet ‘Daya Sagar’ and other culture programmes were also held on the occasion. The programme was conducted by Anjali Bakhsi and Mathew. Bishop Pascal Topno SJ was also present on the occasion.
