The historical shopping hub of the city Gauhar Mahal got embellished with ‘Shilpi Mela Craft Bazaar 2013’. The craft mela that began here from Friday is capturing a huge crowd and is evoking a good response. The fair is being organised by Manav Vikas Seva Sansthan, Bhopal in collaboration with Ministry of Textile Government of India, New Delhi.
The fair is adorned with exquisite range of handicraft and handloom materials from different States of the country. Around 150 artisans of handicraft and handloom materials have participated in the fair. They have got the specialty of their region attracting a huge crowd at their respective stalls.
There are artisans from 15 States of the country which includes Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh.
Chairman of Manav Vikas Seva Sansthan, Bhopal Ishtiyaq Ali said, “The main purpose of organising the mela is to provide a platform to the vendors who are self-employed. Further, the mela is also organised to promote their creative art and display it before the buyers.” He further said, “Though the vendors work very hard to make the wonderful hand work, but they do not get the actual outcome of their hard work. This platform would help them to achieve what they deserve.”
The cultural shopping hub becomes more exotic with 25,000 varieties of handicraft and handloom materials. There are materials with the starting range of `50 to `30,000 as well. The sparkling and fizzy shades of different regions are enchanting the customers and they are taking the pleasure to shop there.
A remarkable variety of dress materials, imitation jewellery, foot-wears, saris, men and children wears, household materials, rugs and not to forget mentioning about the warm Kashmiri shawls are vying to attract the buyers. The traditional and years old dress materials from Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh is captivating the interest of female participants. Mayor Krishna Gaur inaugurated the fair on Friday that would conclude here on February 24.
