Reopen rly crossings: YC memo to collector

Sunday, 31 March 2013 | SR | Bhopal

Continuing their protest for closing down of Kenchi Chola railway crossings, Bhopal Youth Congress members submitted memorandum to collector Nikunj Shrivastava on Saturday.

Youth Congress members wore black strips over their mouth, while submitting memorandum to Collector Shrivastava, signifying their protest against closing down of the railway crossings.

Bhopal Youth Congress president Manoj Shukla said more than 30,000 people reside in the area between the two railway crossings making it one of the most populous areas of the State capital. By closing down both the railway crossings district administration has imprisoned the residents in the area only.

Shukla further said that the alternative of railway crossings, the under bridge, suggested by railway and district administrations is not even viable as heavy vehicles cannot pass through it which exclude 108 ambulance service, fire brigade and religious processions from entering the Kenchi Chola area.

He further said that district administration is going to construct an over bridge as an alternative for the railway crossings but the residents then will have to walk or drive for three km just to reach the other side of the crossing while they now just require to walk/drive for 100 metres only.

Shukla said that ADM Uma Shankar Bhargava received the memorandum on behalf of Collector Shrivastava. Bhargava assured that the railway crossings will be soon opened for the convenience of citizens.

It is worth mentioning that Bhopal Youth Congress members under the leadership of Manoj Shukla protested at the Kenchi Chola railway crossing on Friday demanding opening of railway crossings.
