Pvt firm in power supply stir: CESU office ransacked

Sunday, 31 March 2013 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

Members of Khurda Milita Krianusthan Committee on Saturday ransacked the local office of the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) during a 12-hour Khurda bandh organised to protest entry of Feedback Energy Distribution Company Pvt ltd (FEDCO) for distribution and revenue collection services.

According to sources, CESU has signed a pact with FEDCO entrusting the latter to operate power distribution and collect energy bills in the district. Though the company had started its operation earlier this year, both CESU and FEDCO faced stiff resistance from people of the district.

“As per our earlier announcement, we observed a bandh with a demand to boycott FEDCO. People from different walks of life spontaneously participated in the bandh and expressed their displeasure against the company,” said a member of the committee.

The protestors even blocked National Highway 5 for two hours, disrupting vehicular movement, forcing the police forces to intervene.
