Tuesday, 19 February 2013 | JAGMOHAN SINGH | AMRITSAR

The Jallianwala Bagh Shaheed Pariwar Samiti, an NGO, on Monday demanded apology from the visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron for the tragedy which took place here in 1919 at the height of the British rule in the country.

Bushan Behal, president of the organisation, said that the British Prime Minister might visit the city on February 20 for a few hours and visit the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh. He requested the Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar and Police administration besides Punjab Government to manage his appointment with David Cameron during his visit to Amritsar especially in Jallianwala Bagh where a bloody massacre took place in 1919.

Bushan sought apology from David Cameron for what happened during 1919.

On October 14, 1997, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, stood not just bareheaded but also barefoot before the Flame of liberty memorial at Jallianwala Bagh.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place in a public garden in Amritsar on April 13, 1919. More than 1,000 people were killed in the massacre.
