A dacoity bid was foiled by the Kotwali police on Friday when five dacoits were nabbed with countrymade pistol while planning to rob a jewellery shop from Kotwali area on Friday in the State capital.
While speaking with the mediapersons, Superintendent of Police Bhopal (North) Arvind Saxena told that acting on a tip-off, police swung into action and nabbed five dacoits from the Nagar Nigam parking.
A country-made pistol, live cartridges, black scarf, torch and chili powder were recovered from their possession, he added.
Saxena told that when the dacoits were questioned they confirmed that they were planning of dacoity and were waiting for the closure of the market after which they would target any of the jewellery shop of the Old City Market area. The police have registered a case under Sections 399, 402 of the IPC and Section 25/27 of Arms Act.
The five nabbed dacoits are Chand Khan (22), Mohd Shehku (20), Basheer Khan (20), Riyaz Khan (28) and Ashiq Khan (20). Out of the five dacoits, three have past criminal record. Ashiq Khan was booked for theft and extortion cases in Kotwali, Shymala Hills, Taliya and Mangalwara police station area. The police have confirmed that Ashiq was involved in 6 cases of theft, bullying, criminal intimidation and extortion.
Riyaz Khan and Chand Khan were booked for robbery in Budni in the year 2011. Both Riyaz and Chand were involved in two cases of robbery in Budni. The police have been searching the past criminal record of Mohd Shekhu and Basheer Khan but they were not able to found any past criminal record.
Shekhu and Basheer are residents of Aishbagh, Riyaz lives at Kolar area and Chand is a resident of Gandhi Nagar. Ashiq lives at Shymala Hills.
