Barkatullah University revises annual budget

Sunday, 31 March 2013 | SR | Bhopal

Annual budget of Barkatullah University (BU) was passed again by the Executive Council (EC) on Saturday. Due to several major changes in budget during the court meeting, again approval was required.

BU Registrar Sanjay Tiwari said that one of the major achievements of this EC will be the construction of national level cricket ground and stadium on the university premises. Earlier budget of Rs2.2 lakh was approved by Executive Council but after MlA Arif Aqeel demanded increasing the amount to Rs1 crore in court, the proposal was kept in front of EC which has been approved. Aqeel has assured to provide financial help from Bhopal District Cricket Association (BDCA) and also from the State Government.

The emergency meeting of Executive Council was called for approving several changes made by public representatives in the BU court meeting. In the court meeting, MlA Vishwas Sarang demanded redemption in fees for the BPl students. Sarang demanded that 50 per cent fees redemption in general courses and 25 per cent redemption in professional courses should be provided to the students.

Tiwari said that demand in fees redemption has been approved by the EC and will be implemented from the academic session 2013-14.

University security had remained a major issue in the EC meeting. Tiwari said that permanent wardens will be employed in the university girls’ hostels for their security. Besides that CCTV cameras will be installed in the university premises and proposal for walkie-talkie is under consideration.

The much protested Rs500 entry fees imposed by university administration has been rolled back on the demand of citizens and public representatives. Now only Rs50 will be charged for making of identity card. Tiwari said that identity card will prevent anti-social elements from entering university premises.

He further said that EC has also approved the increased budget for construction of employees’ quarters. The amount has been increased to Rstwo crore from earlier Rsone crore.

EC meeting unexpectedly proceeded peacefully as all the earlier meetings of EC witnessed ruckus by members themselves. Three members were present in the EC meeting.
