AYUSH doctors demonstrating at the residence of Minister of State for Health Mahendra Hardia in the State capital were arrested by the police on Monday.
Nearly 50 doctors had gathered at the official residence of the Minister in afternoon. They wanted to submit a memorandum to the Minister, demanding that the process of new recruitments of AYUSH doctors in the State should be speed up.
However, finding that the Minister is not present at his residence to receive the memorandum, the doctors got angered and they started raising slogans against
the Government.
On this, the police acted swiftly to control the situation from going out of control and arrested the doctors. All the arrested doctors were later released.
According to sources, in the AYUSH Doctors Association, the demonstration was pressed by a section of the doctors reacting to the announcements by the State Government’s AYUSH Department regarding recruitment of doctors in the State through the State Public Service Commission.
Notably, more than 700 posts of AYUSH doctors in the state are lying vacant due to non-recruitment of the doctors for past many years. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had assured the doctors after a strike last year that the vacant post will be filled soon.
The AYUSH department had submitted a proposal for recruitment of AYUSH doctors in January to the Finance Department. However, due to objections raised by the Finance department, the process has been stalled. Reports of these developments had appeared in the media recently.
The AYUSH doctors were, reportedly, enraged by the delay in initiating the process of fresh recruitments.
