The ambitious scheme of UPA II Government, the unique identification number named Aadhaar has no legal base, said Hazaribagh MP Yashwant Sinha.
“In 2011 a Bill was placed before the Parliament to give it legal footing and the Parliament sent it to the standing committee. I was the chairman of that standing committee which reviewed the Bill and rejected it. In that committee the UPA members were in majority but it was the unanimous decision of the committee. The committee submitted its report and since last more than 18 months it has been put on the backburner by UPA,” Sinha accused.
“Actually the purpose of Aadhaar is still undecided. The Government has accepted it is not a proof of Indian nationality. Everyone who resides in India will get this card even if he is illegal immigrant or resident of another country because there is no measure to crosscheck it, due to which the committee rejected it,” he added. Yashwant alleged that despite having no legal base to this much propagated scheme, the UPA II Government was sanctioning huge amount for it in Budget. Now, they have announced the direct cash transfer scheme based on Aadhaar card.
