The 43rd Inter-Frontier Platoon Weapons Shooting championship was inaugurated at Reoti Range on Monday by Dilip Trivedi, special DG, BSF.
The six-day tournament which will conclude on February 23 will see participation of as many as 800 shooters from 11 Frontiers who will vie for 96 medals including 32 gold, 32 silver and equal number of bronze medals.
On the first day of the tournament, Debashish of Guwahati Frontier won gold medal in the combat match (weapon, carbine & pistol), while silver and bronze medals were won by Janak Singh of Gujarat and SI Kuldeep Singh of Rajasthan respectively.
Kicking off the tournament, Special DG, BSF, Dilip Trivedi said shooting has assumed greater significance in this modern era.
Knowing the fact that thesedays, anti-national elements are making use of modern arms and ammunition, it has become essential that we modernize our police force and train our jawans to use modern arms and ammunition. He hoped that during the six-day event, the shooters of various frontiers will display their exceptional shooting skill and will set new benchmarks in shooting.
Rakesh Kumar Sharma, DIG and Commandant, CSWT, BSF said besides teams from various frontiers, two teams from the BSF, Combat and Sports team are also taking part in the event. During the six-day event talented shooters from various frontiers will be picked up and thereafter will be given further training. These selected shooters will represent the BSF in various national-level shooting event, Sharma added.
Besides vying for individual medals, shooters from these frontiers will also vie for the coveted Plantoon Weapon Trophy and the General Raina Trophy (for overall championship).
