CM kicks off schemes in Rishikesh
Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Sunday laid the foundation stones of schemes worth Rs 38 crore at Muni-Ki-Reti in Rishikesh on Saturday.
A three-lane pedestrian bridge on the river Ganga, a community hall and a parking area are the upcoming projects. Speaking on the occasion, Bahuguna said that efforts were being made to develop tourism as the backbone of the State’s economy and work has been started on mini-hydropower projects which would generate 400 MW of electricity. He said a separate authority was constituted for the development of Char Dhams and other shrines in the State. He said that the Central Government is supporting State for carrying development activities.
Six held for barging into Nishank’s house
Dehradun: City police arrested six persons on the charges of assaulting ABVP members and forcibly entering to the residence of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in Dehradun on Saturday.
According to victims, all six accused are believed to be the supporters of former UP Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui, who had scuffle with Jitender Rawat Moni and Ruhal Gupta over a petty issue at Dilaram Chowk, Dehradun on Saturday. All accused managed to enter to Nishank’s house after the incident while chasing the ABVP members.
Dehradun CO (City) Mamta Vohra said that based on complaints received from Moni, an FIR has been lodged under sections 323, 506, 504, 341, 352, 452, 366 and 711 of the IPC and all accused were sent to jail by the police after registering a case.
Pole environment workshop from April 1
Dehradun: The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG), Dehradun is going to organise third pole environment workshop between April 1 and April 3 at its campus.
This is one of the leading programmes of the international institutions. Iceland President Dr Olafur Ragnar Grimsson and Minister of Science and Technology S Jaipal Reddy will be the chief guest of the programme. Approximately 40 world’s renowned scientists, researchers from different countries like India, China, America, French, Germany, Japan, Sweden, Iceland, Canada and Switzerland and others would participated and they would expressed their views on climate change and its global effects.
