Rashtriya Krantiveer Award for Kailash Satyarthi
Ujjain: Indian children’s rights activist and ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’ founder Kailash Satyarthi will be honoured with the ‘Rashtriya Krantiveer Award 2013’ on April 4 for his contribution in social service.
Satyarthi would be bestowed with the award for his work for freeing 80,000 children from the bondage of child labour and providing a new direction to their life. The award instituted in the memory of freedom fighter and social activist late Ramchandra Raghuvanshi ‘Kakaji’ would be given at the 15th Rashtriya Krantiveer Award Samaroh, to be organised near the holy Kshipra River. According to organising committee head Prakash Raghuvanshi, the award has been conferred earlier to environmentalist Rajendra Singh, tehelka.com’s Tarun Tajepal, social activist and actor Sunil Dutt, first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi, social activist Medha Patkar, journalists Aniruddha Bahal, Ved Pratap Vaidik and author Shravan Garg.
Manish Tewari takes part in ‘Bhasma Aarti’
Ujjain: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Saturday took part in ‘Bhasma Aarti’ at the world-famous lord Mahakaleshwar Temple which is abode to one of the dozen ‘Jyotirlingas’ in the country in this temple town. Tewari, who reached here on Friday afternoon as a part of his two-day visit to Madhya Pradesh, reached the temple after taking part in local programmes and took part in ‘Bhasma Aarti’ and offered prayers. He was felicitated by the Mahakaleshwar Mandir Prabandhan Samiti and presented ‘shreephal’ and ‘prasad’. He later left for Indore via road.
Man held for attempting to rape minor
Gwalior: A man has been arrested on the charge of attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl in Padav Police Station limits, police said. Kailash Kadere was living with Bihar resident Meena for the past three years. He had an eye on Meena’s daughter for a long time and he tried to sexually assault the girl on Thursday night. However, the girl raised alarm which woke her mother. Meanwhile, neighbours also gathered and the girl was saved. A police complaint was lodged by the girl along with her mother. Kailash was arrested on Friday.
