Gangster’s brother-in-law injured in firing
Kendrapada: One Sk Rafique sustained bullet injuries on Friday night as two motorbike-borne miscreants opened a round of fire at his leg from close proximity near the Ranapada Chowk while he was returning from the Old Bus-Stand to his half-constructed house at Ranapada. Rafique, who is the brother-in-law of gangster Hyder, was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here before being shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. He was eking out his living by working in a bidi factory at Kendrapada town. The reason behind the firing was yet to be ascertained, said Kendrapada Town PS IIC Ranjan Kumar Dey.
Revenue Secy reviews Kendrapada projects
Kendrapada: Revenue and Disaster Management Principal Secretary Tara Dutt on Friday visited Kendrapada district and conducted a review meeting with the officials on several projects. He visited Pattamundai block to see the progress work of two under-construction cyclone centres. As the progress work was not satisfactory and the cost of the cyclone shelters is escalating, he directed the Chief Engineer to take action against the Assistant Engineer and JE for their negligence. Dutt also visited Derabish and Kendrapada tehsils to inspect the office modernisation works under the National land Record Modernisation Programme.
Seven acquitted in Kandhamal riot case
Phulbani: Fast Track Court Judge Sobhan Kumar Das on Friday acquitted seven accused persons in a case of house burning during the riots in Kandhamal district in 2008. One Haridash Nayak of village Sarshalanda had complained against the accused persons at the Sadar police station that his house was set on fire by them on August 24, 2008.
SPO axes villager to death in Kandhamal
Phulbani: An SPO (Special Police Officer), Bhabindra Dehuri alias Daka, on Thursday night attacked with an axe one Bachibana Podha of village Boidapadara Sahi in Kandhamal district, who died at the spot. The Sadar police registered a case against the accused. The reason of the attack was not yet known.
BAl holds heath camp at Kaliapani
Jajpur: Balasore Alloys ltd (BAl) of Kaliapani Crome Zone (KCZ) organised a free mega health camp at the Kaliapani Primary school ground, the event being inaugurated by Jajpur CDMO Dr Prasanna Kumar Mohanty. Nearly 400 patients, including pregnant women, of the locality attended the camp and availed free medical services and free medicines. Among others, BAl Mines VP Sankar Gangopadhyay, AGM Basanta kumar Parida, HR head Dr Kailash Chapatwal, PRO Ranjan Pattanaik were present.
