Sir — This refers to the news reports, “Mulayam at unpredictable best” and “PC woos SP, assures all help to UP Govt” (March 30). Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s assurance of Central help to Uttar Pradesh, despite Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s diatribe against the Congress-led UPA Government, and the inauguration of 300 banks in Uttar Pradesh, seem to be part of a grand political strategy.
Mr Yadav’s reluctance to withdraw support to the UPA comes across as a seasoned leader’s political acumen to ensure that the Centre delivers on its promise to help the State. Also, the option of a Third Front carries weight because the aam aadmi is equally fed up with the UPA and the NDA. As for Mr Yadav, he could well be the king-maker or king himself. We will know in 2014.
