Maharashtra Chief Minister Pritvhiraj Chavan on Monday ruled out the possibility of people across the State facing any major load-shedding during the coming summer months, notwithstanding the shutdown of two major power plants with a total installed capacity of 3,000 MW.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the “Progressive Maharashtra summit” here, Chavan expressed concern over the shutdown of the Dabhol power plant in Konkan region with an installed capacity of 1,967 MW and Parali thermal station with installed capacity of 1,130 MW in Marathwada region for want of gas and water respectively.
He, however, hastened to say that there would not b any load-shedding in the state during the summer months.
“This (shutting of two power plants) is definitely a matter of concern, but there will not be any load shedding…The coal from Parali will be transfered to Koradi or some other power plant to reduce the cut in generation,” the chief minister said.
“I don’t think there will be a problem (even) in peak summer but only to people who pay,” Chavan said, even as he indicated that Maharashtra would purchase power from other states to meet the power deficit that is expected to increase in summer months.
