BJP patriarch LK Advani on Monday continued his tirade against the UPA Government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in particular. Advani sought a white paper on black money stashed in tax heavens and also wanted the names of the people who have stashed money should be disclosed.
He said, “Credibility is the biggest virtue in public life. We are in office in nine States either on our own or with the help of our allies. But for Karnataka we did not encounter any corruption cases.”
On the second day of his Jan Chetna Yatra in coastal districts of Mangalore and Udupi, he said “many people had advised me to omit Karnataka from my yatra in the wake of allegations of corruption against many leaders here. But I thought I should never do it. I had to take care of Karnataka better than any other region. I wanted to tell the people what I want to say. Tell them that our party should be judged as we want it to be judged.”
The road show of the BJP veteran in the coastal districts, the stronghold of the party, had a rousing response. Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda, who is an MP from Udupi and Chikmagalur constituency vowed to give a transparent administration to the people as was the expectation of the party senior.
In Udupi, Advani demanded the UPA Government to bring out a white paper on the details of black money stashed in foreign banks and publish the list of people who had kept their ‘dirty money’ in the Swiss banks.
Speaking at a public rally at this temple town, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had assured the nation that if the UPA won power for the second time, it would act swiftly against the menace and would show results within 100 days. “But it is already 700 days after the UPA-2 came to power and it is disappointing that Manmohan Singh has done little to expose the anti-nationals who have kept ill-gotten wealth in foreign banks. The BJP demands that the Union Government come out with a white paper in the coming winter session of the Parliament,’’ he urged.
Advani said while the Swiss Parliament under pressure from the US and Germany apart from the UN, has enacted ‘Restriction of Illicit Assets Act 2011’’ while the Indian Government hardly did anything to bring back the black money. The Union Government should make public all its communications done with the Swiss Government with regard to money stashed in the banks of the European country, he demanded.
“It’s high time we brought this money and BJP wants the Government to spend it to uplift the economic and social conditions of the six lakh Indian villages. This money will be more than enough to improve the living conditions in the Indian villages and provide all of them with electricity and drinking water,’’ he said.
On the 2G scam, he accused the Congress of making its UPA coalition partner DMK a scapegoat while its leaders who were responsible for the scam as they took the real decisions were left scot-free.
