The Third Front googly

In hindsight, BSP supremo Mayawati may well come to view the Samajwadi Party's decision to join hands with the Congress as the best thing that happened since her conquest of Uttar Pradesh last year. Regardless of the outcome of Tuesday's trust vote (it is a vote on the UPA Government and not a parliamentary referendum on the abstruse Indo-US nuclear deal), Mayawati has been the big gainer from the confusion and realignments of the past four weeks. As someone put it evocatively, "she has moved into the Indian Premier League."

It's all Maya

Out to seek revenge from UPA for courting the Samajwadi Party, UP Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati, on Saturday, launched a blitzkrieg to topple the Congress-led coalition at the July 22 trust vote. In the process, she also pushed herself up as a Prime Ministerial candidate with the backing of new found allies.

Cong banks on 'pleasant surprises'

No question of PM resigning as we will win vote: Moily

Ahead of the trust vote in Parliament, the Congress quashed all rumours of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh resigning before facing the vote on Tuesday and declared confidently that there would be a few surprises from the BJP and other parties that would see the Government sail through.

BJP lines up one & all

The BJP has dismissed reports of abstention from NDA ranks during the July 22 trust vote and has ensured the presence of its three ailing MPs who were subject of much speculation.
