Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi today warned of "considerable differences" with India over the alleged killing of two Indian fishermen mistaken for pirates by Italian soldiers on an oil tanker.

"There are currently considerable differences of a legal character. Up to now I have not seen the co-operation between India and Italy that would be desirable and would allow a quick resolution," Terzi said.

Italy says the men have immunity from Indian law as the tanker, the Enrica Lexie, was flying with an Italian flag in international waters as it sailed from Singapore to Egypt when the shooting occurred on Wednesday.

The two soldiers, who were deployed on the ship under a new law passed in Italy last year to protect against the growing threat from pirates in the Indian Ocean, were due before an Indian magistrate today.

They were escorted off the vessel and arrested yesterday.

Firing on Indian: 'Guilty cannot be pardoned'

PTI | Chennai : The killing of two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast in firing allegedly by two Italian marines on board an oil tanker is an 'unpardonable crime' and the guilty would be punished, Shipping Minister G K Vasan said here today.

"As I have already said it is condemnable. They (Kerala police) are looking into it as a suspicious incident. Our waterfront is not infested by pirates. So it is an unpardonable crime to shoot innocent fishermen thinking they are pirates. There is no second opinion on whether to punish them for the act," he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Asked if the marines would be tried under Indian law, he said, "One thing I am very clear. Punishment should be given to the guilty. We have lost two precious lives of fishermen, which cannot be pardoned, which cannot be taken for granted."

Assuring that steps would be taken to prevent recurrence of such attacks, he said "The Mercantile Marine Department under the Shipping Ministry, along with Defence, Law and External Affairs ministries are investigating the issue and the guilty will be punished...Centre will give full protection to them."

The two fishermen, Ajesh Binki (25) and Jalastein (45) were killed on February 15 off Kollam coast near Kerala when armed guards of 'Enrica Lexie' fired at their boat.

Preliminary assessment of marine authorities is that the guards might have fired at the boat, mistaking it for a pirate vessel.

TWO INNOCENT INDIANS WORKING FOR THEIR LIVING HAVE BEEN KILLED BY THESE ITALIAN MARINES. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. INDIAN LAW HAS TO TAKE ITS COURSE.

INDIA DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SCARED OF MAFIA INFESTED COUNTRY LIKE ITALY.

What people do not bring into equation, wehy Italian FM is bullying India. Italy has subverted Indian Free Print Media and TV media by taking over its control. in order to impose
the Italian Madam 's rule on India.
The Puppet PM was actually given some written wards to mislead India,by claiming Press was fair and free. Which is a big lie.
A very senior Political figure who took over Berlusconi may be the owner, for some nefarious activity other then profit.
As long as Madam is in power India is not free of Colonial slavery and exploitation.

The Italian foreign minister is saying that the ship was in international waters and they had perfect licence to kill any one if they were suspects in this case, pirates. Now The Indians have to prove that the ship was in Arabian sea near the kerala coast and not in international waters. I dont know how they will do it. going to international courts and trying to win against Italians is just impossible for people in indian who are already ruled and brain washed by an Italian queen. this will be another mini quatrochi and the dead fishermen family will get few lakhs from swiss accounts. all ends well. Hindi-italian bhai bhai. We see we have a bloody relationship with Italians. Indiragandhi blood bath, rajiv gandhi blood bath, 84 delhi bloody bath, and what not.

What the Italian mean by cooperation and a successful resolution of the matter, basicall y means that they expect and demand that India release these two marines with no penalty. This is the price we are paying for being a third world country, which by the way we are not,but one which our great political leadership since independence has ensured that we will continue to remain. When India and Indians are routinely abused, when we continue to be humiliated either brazenly or subtly,we owe it to ourselves to ask whether all that clap trap of panchsheel, ahimsa etc. has served us well,or whether it has left us vulnerable, feeb le and craven before others,to the extent that we fear taking directions in our best interest but practice erudite cowardice and extoll it as a virtue.
