Digvijay alleges swindling of funds in MNREGS in UP
Pioneer News Service | Lucknow
Alleging gross swindling of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) in UP, Congress national general Digvijay Singh claimed to have thrashed out a one-year programme to expose the corruption in which Chief Minister Mayawati and her cabinet colleagues allegedly indulged. He was speaking on the sidelines of a seminar on progress made under MNREGA on Tuesday afternoon.
To actualise Congress icon Rahul Gandhi’s dream of sweeping the Assembly polls of 2012, the Congress party has also planned to produce a chargesheet to nail Mayawati on corruption charges a few months ahead of the 2012 polls.
He said that as part of celebrations marking 125-years of Congress, the party would hold public meetings at Ambedkarnagar, Allahabad on April 14 and November 10, respectively which would be addressed by Rahul Gandhi.
He said that from December 28 this year till December 28 next year, Congressmen would criss cross the state and prepare chargesheets of corruption cases against Mayawati and her minister to expose their misdeeds before the public.
Singh claimed that it was shocking to learn that some officers allocated work to particular Non-Government Organisations which reeked of corrupt practices.
He also alleged that in many districts, MNREGA funds were used by district authority to buy toys and in other places either almirahs, office furniture or calendars were printed.
After receiving complaints, the state government initiated minor actions against the errants who should have been removed immediately from services and the misused funds should have been recovered from them.
Raising the issue of communal violence in Bareilly, Digvijay Singh said that despite the minority community postponing the Julus-e-Mohamadi in the wake of Holi, the administration failed to check the flare-up. He alleged that action against Sunni leader Maulana Tauqeer Raza also pointed that the government was targeting a particular community while sparing members of BJP, RSS and VHP, who led the violence.
Charging Mayawati with being insensitive to the plight of Kunda stampede victims as she did not visit Kripaluji Maharaj Ashram, the Congress leader said that on one hand the Chief Minister was spending crores on constructing parks, statues and holding rallies, on the other she was refusing help to the victims kin claiming cash crunch.
