Set up ESIC Medical College in R’kela: Cong MPs urge PM

Some Congress MP in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have demanded establishment of the ESIC Medical College Hospital at Rourkela in the tribal-dominated Sundargarh district.

MPs, including Hemanand Biswal, Bhakta Charan Das, Sanjay Bhoi and Amar Pradhan have stated that the first public sector integrated steel plant was established in 1955 and it is has one of the largest conglomerate of industrial and mines worker who are mainly tribals. Besides, the area includes border districts namely the industrial belt of Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Bargarh and Sambalpur.

They further said that out of the total 2.40 lakh ESI insured persons registered in Odisha, 1.40 lakh are from this area. The establishment of ESI Medical College Hospital shall cater the need of medical facility of tribal industrial dominated workers.

It would generate more employment and means of livelihood which will definitely contribute towards the economy of the area.

The wards of the industrial workers would get a chance to study in such a medical college and the industrial city of Rourkela has all the facilities for establishing a medical college hospital, mainly road network.
