Road contractors asked to adhere to strict safety norms

The Member Secretary of State Road Safety Council and Additional Inspector General of Police Ajay Kumar Sharma has given instructions for strict adherence of safety norms by contractors at the time of road construction and repair works.

Sharma, while addressing a meeting of Nodal Officers related to Road Safety Department held at the Police Training and Research Institute (PTRI) on Friday, said that along with the road engineering, special attention should also be paid on traffic engineering by the construction agencies. He further mentioned that all the concerned departments should present their updated report to the Office of the Lead Agency on regular basis.

Sharma further said that the 100 most sensitive black spots of the state have been identified. These have been divided into 3 types. It has 39 T or Y type junctions, 41 through junctions and 20 blind turns or S Curve. He stated that black spots need more improvement. Undertake repair work by revisiting these spots. Sharma further mentioned that Nodal officers should take up issues of the concerned department with utmost seriousness. Places, where decline in accidents has been registered should be developed in the form of case study. Besides, data of best works should also be compiled, he added. Sharma said that information should be called from the construction agencies in respect to audit report in a prescribed format.

An updated report of action to connect all the ambulances with one link should be given, he added.
