Ahead of the International Day of Forest and the World Water Day 2019, the ActionAid launched a “People’s Report on Mahanadi” and “JalSaathi”, a volunteer engagement programme on the issue of water, here on Monday.
The ActionAid in association with the Sneha Abhiyan in Jagatsinghpur, Seheda in Jharsuguda, Patang in Sambalpur, Focus Odisha Foundation in Khordha, Abhiyan in Boudh ,
Sanchar in Nayagarh, Mukti and Rashtriya Yuva Sangathan and the Utkal Gandhi Smarak in Cuttack had conducted a study on issues related to Mahanadi in eight districts in Odisha and two districts in Chhattisgarh.
ActionAid regional manager Debabrat Patra, natural resource hub head Bratindi Jena, programme manager Biren Nayak, programme officer BN Durga, scribe Sudarshan Chhotray and development researcher Priyabarat Satpathy released the report.
Patra said the study has covered 36 villages in eight districts like Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha and Puri in the State and four villages in two districts Raigarh and Janjagir Champa of Chhattisgarh.
He also said that the aim of the report was to understand the perspective of the people on the issue of Mahanadi through group discussion and community consultation.
Besides, about 60 community representatives from 12 districts also shared their feedback and suggestions.
