NDA, Grand Alliance indulge in poster war

Thursday, 18 April 2019 | Roshan Kumar | Ranchi

Posters war in State Capital has taken an aggressive turn with hoardings going beyond trumpeting a party achievement’s to hitting out at opponents without mincing words. While, the BJP has put up hoardings and banners across the Capital City highlighting the achievements of Modi government, while the Congress hoardings read about the ‘NYAY’  if the Congress is voted back to power.

However, going through the various roundabouts in Ranchi, it is indicative that Saffron party has beaten up Congress in number of hoardings and banners.  Hoardings and posters donning pictures of Prime Minister Narendra  Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Raghubar Das have come up at all major locations and roundabouts with the slogan ‘Phir Ek baar Modi Sarkar’.  The Saffron party through its banners and posters is also highlighting the achievements of Narendra Modi and Raghubar government such as Ujjwala scheme, housing for all, toilets and above all the national importance.

One such hoarding at Kathal More the entry point of State capital reads about distribution of 29 lakhs gas connection in State through Ujjwala scheme.  The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, an ambitious welfare scheme of Modi Government launched on May 1, 2016 from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh which aims at providing LPG connections to BPL households in the country.

Similarly, through hoardings of national pride and security the BJP tries to give the message that under the Modi Government country is in the safe hands as the government is strict in internal as well as external security. The BJP through its hoardings is also beating drum on achievements of Raghubar Das’s government. The Government efforts to curb religious conversion, setting up ST commission, proving electricity connections to all and providing medical care through Ayushman Yojana or PMJAY are some of the highlights of BJP hoardings.

State BJP spokesperson, Pratul Shadeo said, “The party through its banners and hoardings tries highlights the achievements of Centre and State government at the same time we have listed out our priorities if we are voted back to power.”

The Congress too has put up hoardings with the pictures of Congress president and its campaign tagline ‘Ab Hoga Nyay’.  The Congress poll slogan is based on its election promise of basic minimum income support for the poorest of the poor families in the country under a flagship scheme called ‘Nyay’ under which the party has promised an annual minimum income support of Rs. 72,000 for the country's poorest - about 20 per cent of the population.

State Congress spokesperson, Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo said, “The BJP is definitely ahead of all national and regional parties in putting up hoardings as they are financially sound having huge money for campaigning. But, we too have put up hoardings of our local candidate Subodh Kant Sahay at 35 places, while from party headquarter (Delhi) Nyay hoarding has been put up at several places.”
