Posing a threat to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the tribal outfit–Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti (JAYS) joins the fray by declaring its candidates in tribal dominated two constituencies.
JAYS which has certain followers in the tribal pockets of Malwa-Nimar region was in touch with both the BJP and the Congress for four seats but none offered them a convincing response so they decided to field their own candidates.
Screening committee of JAYS–a progressive youths’ organisation of tribals, met at Dhar on Sunday and named Mahendra Kannauj from Dhar and Kamleshwar Dodiyar from Ratlam-Jhabua seat. Organisation candidate Pushpa Pendram has bene fielded by Gondwana Gantantra Party from Betul and JAYS would extend support.
The organisation is stillindecisive on candidature from Khargone seat and a decision is likely in a couple of days, said Antim Mujalde, a senior functionary of JAYS.
He claimed JAYS had contributed in formation of Congress Government last year in MP and wanted the party to field four of its members but the grand old party never offered a convincing reply.
We had consultations with the BJP also but it wanted to field our national convener Hiralal Alawa from Dhar-Mhow which he declined, Mujalde said.
The candidates announced however are different from those finalised by the national convener.
Dr Alawa who is an MLA from Manawar in Dhar could not be reached for comments on the matter.
Earlier, Alawa had clarified that his organisation was seeking four tickets for tribal youths.
