Scientists, students and staffs of the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar initiated a plantation drive in partnership with the Harihar Vidyapitha at Panasapada village in Brahmagiri in Puri district on Saturday.
A large number of saplings of mango, sopota, guava, neem, amla, cashew and other species were planted in the school premises by students, teachers, community leaders and members of ILS.
The ILS also held a discussion with the school authorities for establishing a nutrition garden, a medicinal plant garden and undertook to hold
science teaching and training activities in the area in the coming days.
Among others, ILS Director Dr Ajay Parida, IBS, Imphal Director Dr Dinabandhu Sahoo and Advisor in PSA JB Mohaptra were present.
Scientists and students of ILS had a done detailed survey of the affected areas during Cyclone Fani and identified Krushnaprasad block of Puri district for undertaking a long-term ecological and economic rehabilitation in selected villages in partnership with the local communities and stakeholders.
