Fissures surface in west UP unit of RLD

Tuesday, 19 March 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Fissures have started surfacing in the west UP unit of Rashtriya Lok Dal with party in-charge Anil Chaudhary resigning from his post on Saturday.

RLD national spokesman Anil Dubey said that the party had not accepted Chaudhary’s resignation as yet.

When asked over phone about his decision, Anil Chaudhary said, “I was not able to adjust myself with workers and in carrying forward the party’s poll strategy and so I resigned from the post. But I am still in the party and with all dedication. I am ready to take the responsibility I am given by Chaudhary Ajit Singh and Jayant Chaudhary.”

The RLD leader said that he had been heading the west UP unit of the party for a long time but now he found himself to be a little exhausted and was unable to convince workers successfully. “Hence, I felt that I should not stick to the post,” he said.

Chaudhary admitted that there were talks in the party that he would be fielded from Mathura Lok Sabha seat. “But this is 4-5-day-old story. I myself declined the offer. I spoke to Ajit Singhji and asked him to field a dedicated party worker in my place. I feel that the candidate being fielded should not be a paradropped leader and should be from the party.”

Chaudhary said that there was growing demand within the party that Jayant Chaudhary’s wife Charu Lata be fielded from Mathura Lok Sabha seat. “I will support this if the senior leaders decide in this regard and would definitely campaign for her,” he said.

Dr Anil Chaudhary is a powerful leader of west UP with good rapport with RLD workers. It was his political acumen and his hold over workers that he won the Assembly election from Sadabad seat in adverse political conditions some years back.

RLD sources said that party workers and leaders were unhappy with the decision to agree for three seats offered by the SP-BSP alliance.

“The RLD brass ignored the basic issues related to voters of west UP and sidelined the demand for creation of a Harit Pradesh.

Chaudhary has a good hold over voters in Mathura and other districts of west UP. If dissent among leaders of west UP continues, the RLD will have a tough time on the three seats it will be contesting in this election,” the RLD sources said.
