Environmentalist writes to PM for using tree roots as artifacts

Hazaribagh:  Environmentalist and forest department employee Mritunjay Sharma has come up with an innovative idea of using the tree root as a showpiece. In his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he has suggested that instead of throwing away such roots, NHAI should take the responsibility of converting it into a showpiece as done in foreign countries. Sharma is credited for searching the tallest anthill at the foothills of Canary hill besides discovering rare species of butterfly to clicking exclusive pictures by moving in and around the State.

Sharma said Hazaribagh-Ranchi stretch of NH-33 was widened few years back and a large number of tress were axed. He said roots of several years’ old trees taken out and dumped roadside. He said such roots look so beautiful that if after cleaning, given a paint in artistic way can be used as a showpiece. He said in foreign countries, roots after given artistic look kept at parks and other public places. Sharma said he wrote to Modi drawing his attention on this issue requesting him to make NHAI responsible for it. He said NHAI is behind widening on many national highways and dumping the roots here and there.

Sharma, who is running Canary Eco Club creating awareness on wildlife, said as the trees grow with passing years, roots also get developed under the earth. He said when construction company after axing the trees, take out the complete roots, it surprise many with its unique look. It will be better than any artificial showpiece, he claimed. He said in India, no effort taken ever to use these roots after giving it

a new look. According to Sharma, roots of the trees are treated as very expensive stuff in foreign countries as it gets available after axing of trees. He said country like Japan is best using the roots as showpiece. He said he had informed to Modi, transport minister Nitin Gadkari and NHAI chairman also and will wait for their reply in this regard.
