Enable youth to achieve self-employment: Rawat

Uttarakhand's State Minister of Higher Education, Dhan Singh Rawat said that the aim should not be to provide every student employment but to enable them to achieve self-employment. He said this while speaking at the CII Northern Region EduSummit–Heading from Education to Employability at Gurugram on Friday. He apprised the audience of the initiatives the Government of Uttarakhand has undertaken to improve the education landscape in the state to emerge as the second most literate state after Kerala which will further set grounds to State’s commitment to produce highest IAS officers in the country by 2030. Rawat stressed on the importance of strong ethics and patriotism among the youth to make them powerhouse of India’s future

“In order to have a conducive learning environment, we need to focus on creating co-learning spaces with ample autonomy with every student to brain-storm and emerge as research and development hub of the world”, said the vice chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), MP Poonia.

He acquainted the gathering with the mandatory 20 credit course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that is to become part of four-year engineering curriculum from next year onward.

Speaking on the occasion, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) secretary Anurag Tripathi informed the audience about some recent initiatives taken by CBSE including one-of-its kind vocational course on Artificial Intelligence offered from Class VIII onward, school principals to become pedagogical leaders, CBSE affiliation to shift from infrastructural requirements to that based on academic record, teacher quality and innovation capabilities.

“A deliberate strategy and an organised design structure is required to bridge the skill gaps that the higher education sector is struggling to keep up for India to produce more global CEOs”, said CII norther region chairman of regional committee on education, Shreevats Jaipuria.
