Disasters fund being diverted for KALIA: Niranjan

Thursday, 17 January 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

That the State Government is shedding crocodile tears for the farmers is crystal clear now. When the State is heavily burdened with a huge debt, the BJD Government is trying its best to attract voters before the elections by announcing a number of schemes.  KALIA is one such scheme without funds allocation. Now, to distribute money to the farmers, the Government has declared to divert money from the disaster and emergency fund for this scheme. The Government is trying to deposit Rs 5,000 in every farmer's account to garner votes.

This was alleged by PCC president Niranjan Pattnaik in a statement on Wednesday.

Patnaik said the BJD is confirming that this time it is going to lose the elections. Therefore, it is trying to woo the voters with bogus schemes.  To fund the KALIA scheme, the Government has withdrawn Rs 734.66 crore from the State disaster and contingency fund. There is provision that the Government can withdraw money from this fund in case of any disaster or emergency. But to distribute money to farmers, the Government is violating all rules and norms to remain in power, alleged Patnaik.

He also said the Governor has approved withdrawal of money from the emergency fund. This is clear indication of the close relationship between the BJP and the BJD. Every citizen of the State has now a debt burden of about Rs 20,000. The people know everything; and they would give a befitting reply in appropriate time.
