CMC to provide houses to 260 landless people

Thursday, 27 June 2019 | PNS | Bokaro

Chas Municipal Corporation (CMC) has set a target to provide flats (houses) under Prime Minister Awas Yojna to 260 landless people in the current financial year. CMC will provide Rs 2.5 lakhs as a subsidy to the beneficiaries while rest of the amount they will get as a loan and they will have to repay to banks, informed Sashi Prakash Jha Additional Municipal Commissioner CMC.

“There are 7011 cast houses (huts) in the municipal corporation area. We have also set a target to provide them permanent houses by 2020,” added Jha.

Expressing deep concern over the pending construction works of PM Awas which were allotted during the FY 201-17 and 2017-18, Jha said we are on move to launch ‘awareness drive’ aiming to give a boost for the construction works under PMAY.

“Our motto is to bring a drastic change in their lifestyle by providing houses to the beneficiaries,” he added.

Jha said, the administration is preparing to come down heavily on the PMAY beneficiaries who have not yet started the construction work of their houses despite withdrawing money under this scheme.

Earlier CMC served notices to 20 PMAY beneficiaries who have not constructed their houses despite withdrawing money under this scheme and asked them to refund the money as earliest, informed an official.

The main objective of this project is to make affordable housing units and to make it easily available to the poor families, said the official.

CMC is at work in a bid to turn the city into hut free zone. People residing in the slum or homeless will be shifted into apartments. Apartments would be constructed at Kalapathar as transit blocks and people residing in the slum or homeless will be shifted in those apartments. A market complex is also proposed to come up at that site. A detailed work plan is ready and we are planning to assume that by the end of 2022, said an official.

“Our aim is to bring the existing slums within the formal system and enabling them to avail the basic amenities that are available for the city residents,” said JP Yadav Executive Engineer CMC.

“We have also planned to settle down 760 urban homeless people under Prime Minister Aawas Yojna (Urban). The layout of apartments has been ready, with an investment of Rs 56 crore apartments would be constructed at Kalapathar and Kamaldih in next two years,” he said.

“Houses would be come-up on 4 acres of land at Kalapathar and one acre of land at Kamaldih where 540 and 220 homeless would be settled. Each house will have a bedroom, dining room, kitchen and bathroom,” added Yadav.

The beneficiaries have to apply fresh for this scheme either online or at CMC office along with voter ID (must), Aadhar card, three passport size photos, bank passbook and residential certificate issued by revenue official of their hometown.

This housing scheme will consider economically weaker BPL as well as APL categories only, and their annual income should not be exceeded than 3 lakhs rupees, he said.

“The most important thing is that the beneficiary should not have a pucca house is his or her name, or in the name of any of his or her family in any part of India,” added Yadav
