CM asks nodal officers to improve law, order

Thursday, 17 October 2019 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed the newly-appointed nodal officers of UP Police to improve law and order and identify officers not taking their jobs seriously and sullying the image of the government so that action could be taken against them.
Yogi issued a three-month deadline to the nodal officers and asked them to launch a special drive to improve the image of Uttar Pradesh on the law and order front.
After appointing 75 senior officers, one each for one district, Yogi Adityanath summoned them at his official residence on Wednesday morning and suggested ways on how they could contribute in building the image of the state on law and order front.
In the presence of Chief Secretary RK Tewari, DGP OP Singh and Additional Chief Secretary, (Home) Awanish Awasthi, the Chief Minister asked officers to visit their assigned districts in the first week of November and submit report for necessary action.
The Chief Secretary claimed that in the last three years of his rule, a lot had improved on the law and order front but he figured it could be further improved through close monitoring and hence the nodal officers were appointed.
“It is now your responsibility to contribute in providing good governance to the people. Justice should be given to the last person in the line as they are not satisfied with police action taken for redressal of their grievances,” he said.
Yogi Adityanath said that during their visit to districts, the nodal officers should analyse the image of the police and jail personnel and submit a factual report so that the slack officers could be replaced by competent ones.
The Chief Minister said that besides general perception, the officers should verify the personal image of district police chiefs, additional superintendents of police, circle officers and police station in-charges.
Yogi further said that on the same lines, IAS officers of the rank of secretary to additional chief secretary would also be made nodal officers for reviewing administrative work in districts so that the image of the government could be improved.
On Tuesday, the Yogi government had appointed senior officers up to the rank of DG as nodal officers for each of the 75 districts for close monitoring of police work. An order in this regard was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi.
The order said that the nodal officers would monitor law and order of respective districts. DG (Intelligence) Bhavesh Kumar Singh was made nodal officer for Lucknow district, which has witnessed a series of crimes during the past few months.
Senior officers made nodal officers were ADG (ATS) DK Thakur for Gorakhpur, ADG Rajiv Krishna for Bulandshahr, ADG (Prosecution) Ashutosh Pandey for Prayagraj, ADG (Lucknow zone) SN Sabat for Ayodhya, DG (EOW) RP Singh for Aligarh and ADG (Kanpur zone) Prem Prakash for Farrukhabad.
These officers will monitor crimes in the respective districts and district police chiefs of these districts would report directly to them.
