City student tops JEE Mains in State

Ankit Kumar Jain, a student of Delhi Public School, Ranchi, who has also been taking coaching at FIITJEE, became the State topper in JEE Mains 2019, examination conducted earlier this month scoring 99.989 percentile.

Principal of DPS Ranchi, Ram Singh congratulated Ankit for his success and wished him the very best in all his future endeavours. As many as nine students of DPS Ranchi scored above 99 percentile in the examination.

Examination for Paper-I of JEE Mains on BE and B. Tech was organized by National Testing Agency (NTA) at 467 examination centre across the country and abroad, from January 9 to12. A total of 9,29,198 candidates registered for the examination of which 8,74,469 appeared.

The result for the examination was declared on Saturday by NTA, in which 15 students scored 100 percentile and the agency revealed the name of State toppers from every state.

Centre head at FIITJEE Ranchi, Randhir Kumar said that Ankit is a very hard working student. “The day when he did not have school and coaching he would study at home for at least five to six hours but on the days of coaching, he would give at least an hour for studying at home,” he said.

Kumar informed that of the total students who participated in the mains, around 2.30 lakh will be eligible for appearing in the JEE advance examination. Last year, around 2.24 lakh students appeared in JEE advance.

“Top 20,000 students in JEE advance will then be eligible for admission in the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology across the country while the students below that rank can get admission in National Institutes of Technology (NIT), which are at least one or two in every state,” he said.

The students who cannot make it to either the IITs or the NITs can get admission in other private or government aided engineering institutes across the country.

This is for the first time that the students are being given two chances for appearing in JEE mains. A second examination for JEE mains would be conducted between April 6 to 20 and those who want to improve their results can appear for the examination again.

Kumar said, “Almost all the students including Ankit will be appearing for the second examination as well. They all want better score; even those who have scored 98 percentile want to improve their score.”

Giving success tips to the students who are to appear in the second examination of JEE Mains, Kumar said that they need to focus on NCERT books, especially in chemistry and physics. "Questions were mostly of boards’ level from NCERT in this examination as well. The students need to have conficence in themselves," he said.

Meanwhile, 21 students of Champ Square, a city based coaching institute scored above 99 percentile, 246 students scored above 90 percentile while 386 students scored above 85 percentile.

The score for paper-II including B. Arch and B. Planning will be declared later the date for which has not yet been announced.
