In view of the huge rush at the ultrasound centre in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here, Health Minister Naba Kishore Das has assured that a second ultrasound machine would be installed in the DHH by January 15 next.

The Minister informed this while laying a foundation-stone for a ramp and a special ward of dengue and diarrhoea here on Saturday.

On the issue of shortage of doctors in hospitals, Das said that paucity of medics is a national phenomena and it would be mitigated to some extent in coming three years.

Union Minister Pratap Sarangi attending the meeting suggested that measures should be taken for resolving overcrowding of patients at the outdoor, non-availability of anti rabies vaccines and non-availability of ambulances for patients.

Culture Minister JP Panigrahi, MLAs MM Duta and Sudhansu Parida and ZP President Nibedita Mohant, district Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy, CDMO Banjarjee Prasad Chhotray and medical college Superintendent Sudhir Ghosh were present, among others.

To a 15-point charter of demands submitted to him by the Baleswar Medical College Action Committee, Minister Das said that most of them have been fulfilled, excepting adequate numbers of doctors.

He further asked the officials to enhance the number of beds in the ICU and hospital wards and provide proper care to thalassemia patients. He too directed the doctors not to refer all the cases to outside hospitals.
