5 held after shootout in Rohini

Two shootout incidents were reported in national Capital on Monday. In one incident a brief shootout took place on early Monday morning at a park in Delhi’s Rohini area between police and associates of Neeraj Bawana gang members after which five accused were apprehended by Delhi Police. While in another incident an auto-lifter was arrested by Delhi Police after a brief encounter at Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police apprehended Sunil Bhura (24), a resident of Rohtak (Haryana), Sukhwinder (23) a resident of Bhiwani (Haryana), Ravinder (34) a resident of Sonipat (Haryana), Arpit Chillar (20) a resident of Bahadurgarh (Haryana) and a 17-year-old a resident of Mundka in Delhi on early hours of Monday. The accused are associates of Dushyant and Sonu, who are members of the dreaded Neeraj Bawana gang and are wanted in two cases of murder.

Three of the accused sustained injuries in the shootout which took place near Swarn Jayanti Park at sector 10 in Rohini. Two police personnel who were shot at had a narrow escape as the bullets hit their bulletproof vests.

Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell said that the three accused, Arpit Chillar, Sunil Bhura and Sukhwinder, sustained injuries on their legs during the shootout.

“Five weapons with cartridges have been seized from the possession of the accused persons. Further investigation is going on,” said the DCP.

In another incident, a notorious auto-lifter was arrested by Delhi Police after gunfire encounter at Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area. Police has recovered one loaded country made pistol and four luxurious vehicles from his possession.

According to Monika Bhardawaj, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West district, information was received regarding the auto-lifter , identified as Safeek (38) a resident of Behjoi in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, following which a trap was laid on around 5 AM on Monday and apprehended the accused after a brief exchange of fire.

“During interrogation the accused disclosed that is a professional auto lifter, operates in a gang and used to steal only luxurious cars from different parts of Delhi. Members of the gang possess vast technical knowledge about all the security and electric devices including lock system used in the cars,” said the DCP adding that other members of the gang have been identified and raids are being conducted at their possible hideouts to arrest them.
