Haryana Govt clears 106km Delhi-G’gram rapid corridor

After Uttar Pradesh (UP), the Haryana Government has also given green signal to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) on 106 kilometres (km) Delhi-Gurugram SNB (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror Urban Complex) Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. A total of Rs 6,436 crore has been allocated for the Rapid Rail project.

The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting of the Haryana Government on Wednesday. The Cabinet has also awarded a seed money of Rs 500 crore for the financial year 2019-20. The UP Government has already approved the DPR of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project.

The DPR of the Delhi-Gurguram-SNB corridor was first approved by the implementing agency i.e, National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) Board, in December 2018.

After that, it was placed in the Cabinet meeting for the final call, said an official at the NCRTC.

The pre-construction work such as Geotechnical investigation has also started recently in Gurugram. Tenders for Pile Loading Test have also been floated by the NCRTC for this corridor.

The 106-km Delhi-Gurugram SNB corridor would be constructed with both elevated and underground stations. The first 71 km will be elevated corridor with 11 stations and the remaining 35 km will be underground with five stations, mostly in Delhi and Gurugram. Once constructed, the corridor is expected to bring down the travel time between Delhi-SNB to about 70 minutes from three hours.

Officials at the NCRTC further added that the corridor will converge with other RRTS corridors that will be constructed at Sarai Kale Khan to provide interchange facilities to the commuters. Besides, Sarai Kale Khan station, there will be six other major interchange stations on the RRTS corridor such as Jor Bagh, Munirka, Aerocity Airport, Udyog Vihar, Kherki Daula and Panchgaon.

“These interchange stations will constructed on the pattern of Multi-Modal Transit Connection, where commuters will have the opportunity to get the facility of multi-modes of transport hub at one place. For instance, at Sarai Kale Khan, commuters can interchange for metro, Railway (Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station) and Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Further, passengers will reach the Airport and ISBT in an hour from Gurugram and Haryana,” said the NCRTC official.

The official further added that this corridor will be a major boost for the farmers and students especially from Gurugram, Rewari, Manesar, Daruheda, Bawal and as the RRTS smart line will pass through the urbanised and industrialised areas of Haryana and connect Delhi airport with the RRTS network, increasing the overall productivity of the NCR. It will also reduce air pollution level and de-congestion of traffic.

RRTS trains with operation speed of 160 kmph and average speed of 100 kmph will be available at a frequency of every 5-10 minutes. These trains will be air-conditioned with transverse seating and overhead luggage space for commuter comfort. Also, it will have a separate business coach with facilities like aeroplanes.

As per the officials closely involved with the RRTS project, the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB corridor will be implemented in three stages. In the first stage, Delhi-Gurugram-SNB Urban Complex will be constructed. In the second phase, the SNB corridor will be extended to Sotanala and then to till Alwar in the final phase.
