Wanted gunrunner with Rs 1L bounty arrested

Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a 21-year-old arms supplier identified as Mohit Verma who carried a  reward of Rs 1 lakh over his head. He was also wanted for colluding with his brother-in-law in the murder of a well-off elderly couple. However, the plan was uncovered and his brother-in-law was arrested while the accused Mohit absconded.

"A team, led by Inspector Shiv Kumar, was tasked to arrest arms dealers including Mohit Verma indulging in supplying illegal arms in Delhi. He is wanted in many cases of arms act including a case of Special Cell," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah stated.

"Information was received that Mohit Verma would come near Timber market, Kalindi Kunj, Meethapur Road, Delhi to meet one of his contacts on Sunday. A trap was laid and he was arrested. One semi-automatic pistol along with 5 live cartridges was recovered," he said.

"During interrogation, he divulged that he was involved in arms smuggling for the last 4 years. He used to procure weapons from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh and Munger in Bihar and then supplied the same in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. He was working as an arms carrier for two years after which he started supplying illegal arms through his own network," said the DCP.

"He disclosed that he had already supplied more than 250 pistols in Delhi and adjoining States. Mohit Verma further revealed that he purchased a pistol for Rs 10,000 from suppliers of MP. And then,he sold these pistols for a price ranging from Rs 20,000 to 25,000," the DCP said.

"It has also been revealed that Mohit Verma was arrested for the first time in a case of arms smuggling in Fatehpur, UP in the year 2016. He was again arrested in Dewas, MP in the month of July, 2018 when he was bringing illegal arms in Delhi. He is wanted in a case of planning to kill an old couple for robbery in South Delhi. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was declared by Delhi Commissioner of Police on his arrest in this case," the DCP added. 

"His brother-in-law Aakash Patel was working as nursing attendant with an old couple who were in their 90's and staying in South Delhi. They were financially well off and living alone in their house. Akash Patel conspired with Mohit Verma and planned to kill the elderly couple and rob them," said the DCP.

"Mohit Verma procured weapons but the plot was unveiled by the Special Cell and Akash Patel was arrested in May 2018. Mohit ran away and had been absconding since," the DCP added.
