Use tech in day-to-day policing: DGP to SPs

DGP RP Sharma on Tuesday reviewed the Student Police Cadet, functioning of Model police stations and appointment of legal advisors in districts with the Police Commissioner, Range IGs, DIGs and Superintendents of Police through video conferencing from the State police headquarters.

The district SPs have already identified the schools in their jurisdiction as to where the scheme will be introduced. They have been also provided with required uniform clothing and other materials to starts the programme at the earliest. The DGP informed that the scheme would be launched very shortly in December itself.

The Chief Minister has been requested to launch the programme from the Capital High School in Bhubaneswar.

DGP Sharma also reviewed the functioning of recently launched 35 Model police stations in the State. DGP asked the SPs for posting of manpower as per scale prescribed, adherence to functional parameters as prescribed, improve the behavioural aspect of staff and use of technology in their day-to-day policing work.

The DGP specifically asked the SPs to adopt CCTNS and use Citizen Portal in the Model PSs and take steps to do all works online abolishing the age-old paper and register works. To streamline the functioning of Model PS and for effective policing, Sharma suggested training programme for its staffs.

There will be training on the use of technology, behavioral aspect and stress management of staff. There will be third party audit of the Model Police Stations in due course to assess their functional efficiency and public delivery system. There will be provision to reward the best performing Model Police Stations in the state.

DGP suggested a common and comprehensive training module for the staff of Model Police Stations so as to maintain uniformity in all the Police Stations. Besides centralised training, the Range IGs, DIGs have been asked to organise training in their range level also.

DGP also reviewed the appointment of legal advisors in the districts for smooth and early disposal of legal complications in different cases. 24 districts have been asked earlier to appoint legal advisors in their districts. Out of this only 14 districts have been able to appoint legal advisors. DGP asked the SPs of rest eight districts to start the process for early appointments.
