The Uttar Pradesh government will honour widows of UP Police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty during Police Commemoration Day on Sunday (October 21).
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who will be present at the function to pay homage to the martyred policemen, is likely to make some announcements.
Recently, the state government had promoted a record number of cops and also started the process for recruitment of about a lakh police personnel to reduce stress on the existing force.
Director General of Police OP Singh said here on Saturday that Police Commemoration Day was observed every year to pay homage to supreme sacrifice of 10 policemen, who died defending the borders with China on October 21 in 1959.
Singh said this year too, UP Police would honour the families of 67 cops who lost their lives in the last one year.
Among the martyred cops are constable Ankit Tomar (27), who died fighting criminals in Shamli in January, and fireman Kamlakant Tripathi, who died when a burning tree branch fell on him while he was trying to put out a fire in nearby sugarcane and wheat fields in Maigalganj in Lakhimpur Kheri.
