SDMC deploys 97 water tankers, fines violators

In its efforts to mitigate pollution level in the national Capital, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has deployed 97 tankers for water sprinkling on roadsides as part of emergency measures to combat the dust pollution.

Additionally, 18 mechanical road sweepers have also been deployed to clean the road and collecting dust, a senior SDMC official said. “The water tankers and mechanical sweepers are being deployed as per scheduled. All the activities are also personally being monitored by senior officials, Mayor and Commissioner.” he said.

SDMC Mayor Narendra Chawla and Commissioner Dr Puneet Kumar Goel have instructed the officers of all zones to take appropriate action against the violators.  Apart from this a close eye is being kept on the action and its results for which a mechanism has been set-up, he said.

The civic body has also issued 106 challans in last 17 days in all four zones and collected Rs 1,12.900 as fine for different violations of norms laid down by National Green Tribunal (NGT) . 

SDMC also issued challans for using plastic and collected Rs 1,50,000 as fine. Also, it issued general challans under Delhi Municipal Corporation Act- 444 and collected Rs 628900 as fine.

The official also informed that all the senior staffs have been directed to deploy all mechanical road sweepers and water tankers for settling down the dust.

He also directed officials to hire additional water sprinklers in their respective zones. He added officials of regarding zones have already started action against burning of solid waste, garbage, dry leaves, and plastic, rubber and construction activities.
