S’pur lawyers’ 2-day Mahabandh from Nov 29

Monday, 19 November 2018 | NIMAI CHARFAN SAHU | SAMBALPUR

The lawyers of Sambalpur gave an ultimatum to the State Government to fulfil their demand for a High Court Bench failing which they will close the entire offices of State, including of Central Government by holding a Mahabandh for two days on November 29 and 30. Meanwhile, the agitators will close all offices from November 19.

“In fact, we expected a suitable reply from both the State and Central Governments in this regard but in vain. Hence, we are compelled to go ahead with the earlier programme,” said Sambalpur District Bar Association president Bijitendriya Pradhan.

Today in an important meeting of the Central Action Committee (CAC) of the lawyers and members of various the socio cultural organisations of the district, it was decided to intensify the agitation.

The leaders of all political parties including all religion heads from temples, churches, mosques and Gurudwaras also took part in the meeting to express their solidarity.

“Since the demand is genuine and there is a necessity for a HC Bench, we extend our unconditional support to the CAC,” said religious heads. “When all the State and Central Government offices will remain closed, the entire essential services will be exempted from it,” informed Pradeep Kumar Bahidar, a senior member of the CAC.

But Sambalpur Collector Samarth Verma said: “The people were suffering a lot due to the agitation of the lawyers. The proposed bandh from November 19 will aggravate the situation further. Hence, we are in continuous touch with the CM office and the State Government. A suitable solution is expected within three to four days.”

The Collector further informed that massive police arrangements will be made everywhere and near all offices to ensure peaceful bandh and curb any untoward situation anywhere.
