Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said on Tuesday that the party which neglected Lord Ram and Ram temple issue was forced to bite dust in three Central Indian states where the Bharatiya Janata Party was defeated by the Congress in the just-concluded assembly elections.
Reacting to the results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, senior VHP leader Purshottam Narain Singh said that Ram bhakts were angry with the party which spoke about construction of Ram temple only during elections but did little for it while in power.
"These Ram bhakts have vented their anger by defeating the BJP in these three states," Singh said in a statement issued in Lucknow on Tuesday.
The VHP leader said that the people of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh had played a pivotal role during Ram Janmabhoomi agitation.
"Be it 1990 or December 6, 1992, Ram bhakts from these states played a stellar role in the campaign. Their campaign found reflection in government formation as soon after that the BJP formed governments in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh," Singh pointed out.
The VHP leader asserted, "In a democracy, people's voice should be honoured. Ram bhakts wanted the construction of Ram temple but the party which galvanised them on the issue suddenly refused to listen to Ram bhakts," he said.
Singh said that it was not a victory of Congress in these states but a reflection of disenchantment of Ram bhakts. "Sadhus will now take a call at Kumbh Mela on January 31 and in Virat Dharma Sabha on February 1 about the proposed construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya," the VHP leader said.
