Modi king of false promises: Rawat

Thursday, 15 November 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

While campaigning for the Congress for the urban local body polls slated for November 18, the AICC general secretary and former chief minister Harish Rawat launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dubbing him a liar for making false promises to the people of the country.

Addressing a public meeting in support of the Congress mayoral candidate, Dinesh Agarwal at Kedarpuram, the Congress veteran reminded the people of the promise made by Narendra Modi ahead of  the 2014 Lok Sabha elections to transfer Rs 15 lakh into the bank account of every Indian. “At the time, many repented having fewer children as more children meant more money,” he said in a sarcastic vein and added that they are now feeling cheated.

Continuing to train his gun on the PM, the Congress leader said that in case a competition in telling lies is held,  Modi would come out with flying colours. He also said that  PM was running the government in an autocratic fashion.

Taking pot-shots at the Trivendra Singh Rawat government, Harish Rawat said that the much- hyped double engine is yet to start its eagerly awaited journey. “The CM here is pompously inaugurating the schemes the foundation stone of which were laid during the previous Congress regime,” he said.

Heaping praise on the Congress mayoral candidate Dinesh Agarwal, the former CM recalled the sincere initiatives he had taken to   serve his constituency while he was a minister. “None in the mayoral fray here can boast of even half of the stature Agarwal enjoys,” he said. Earlier while talking to the media persons, Rawat claimed that Congress candidates in all the ULBs are set to win. Quizzed over some Congress leaders switching over to BJP, he said that most of them were tainted people who cared a fig for ideology the party embodies.
