Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has given no objection certificate (NOC) for the construction of Kishau Dam on river Tons, a tributary of river Yamuna along the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
With the construction of this Dam, Haryana would get additional 709 cusecs of water for drinking and irrigation purposes, said an official spokesman.
As per Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between six states in the year 1994, Haryana’s share in the Kishau Dam is 709 cusec water out of the live storage capacity of 1324 MCM.
Notably, Manohar Lal along with Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi had inked MoU with Union Water Resources Minister, Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi for construction of Lakhwar multi-purpose project in the Upper Yamuna Basin. With the construction of this project, Haryana would get 177 cusecs as its share of water which constitutes about 47 per cent of the total storage capacity.
