Holy city Haridwar proving to be Crime Capital of Uttarakhand

Tuesday, 25 September 2018 | PNS | Dehradun

Haridwar, well-known as a place of pilgrimage, is now fast becoming the crime capital of Uttarakhand. With 6008 registered criminal cases across the State, Haridwar district accounts for one–third of such cases.

Giving the information in the State Assembly, the State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant said that a total of 18299 criminal cases have been registered in different police stations across the State in 2017-18 and out of them 14185 cases have been disposed of while investigations  are going on in 4114 cases. In response to a question raised by the Congress MLA Mamta Rakesh, the Minister said that the district-wise review of the pending cases is being done by the senior officers regularly while in course of the monthly crime meeting, the fast disposal of the pending cases is discussed.

The information provided by the Minster clearly shows that the criminal activity in the state is mainly confined to the plain districts like Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun.

The Congress member who represents Bhagwanpur Assembly constituency in Haridwar expressed concern over the rising crime cases in  the district.

She said that the physical verification of the tenants and those working in the industrial areas should be done by the police to curb the crime rate.
