Dip in mercury brings winter in Dehradun

The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast dry weather in Uttarakhand while, according to its report, it might rain or snow in the higher reaches in some districts like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh on Tuesday. As per the weather forecast, the places situated at the altitude of 3500 metre and above might receive snow on the day. Though the climate would be, generally, dry in the rest of the State the sky would remain generally to partly cloudy.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited winter is now slowly setting in Dehradun with the mercury dipping gradually. While on Monday, the minimum temperature recorded in the city 11.7 degree Celsius, three notches below the normal, the same trend is likely to continue on Tuesday, the weather officers said. The maximum temperature on Monday in the city settled at 30 degree Celsius-two notches above the normal-, while the minimum hovered at 11. 7 degree Celsius-three notches below the normal. On Tuesday too, the same temperature would continue with slight variations, the Met officers said.

With the progressive dip in the mercury, the residents of Dehradun have started to put on woollens now. They say that the climate is turning cold during the early morning and after the dusk falls. The sun is also slowly losing its heat, bringing in the feel of the winter during the daytime too, they add. 

At Mukteshwar, the minimum temperature settled at 7.9 degree Celsius-one notch below the normal, and the maximum at 17.2 degree Celsius which was two notches below the normal while the minimum was 9 at New Tehri-normal and the maximum was 20.6 degree Celsius-normal.  In Pantnagar, the maximum temperature was 31 degree Celsius, one notch above the normal, and the minimum settled at 9.8 degree Celsius-five notches below the normal.
